About Priya

Priya Jagannathan joined the Oakland Ed Fund in August 2016, as the manager of Oakland Starting Smart and Strong, a collaborative focused on creating universal access to high quality early learning experiences.

Priya’s expertise is multidisciplinary and broad, having worked in the nonprofit and public sectors on early childhood education, women’s health, community development, case management, and family support services. Most recently, she worked in a variety of roles for the City of Oakland’s Human Services Department, including managing the City’s violence prevention investments and planning Head Start child development and family services.

Prior to her work with the City, Priya worked for nonprofit agencies in Oakland and San Francisco. She has a strong commitment to the equitable distribution of resources throughout the community, and to supporting high quality programs and strategies that benefit children and families.

She has a master’s degree in Public Health from UC Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree from UCLA.  Priya was born in India, raised in New Jersey and California, and has lived in the Bay Area for the last 14 years. She feels lucky to be part of the Bay Area community, with her partner and two daughters who keep her busy, tired, and happy.
