In a diverse city like Oakland, our students need opportunities to see themselves—and all of their classmates—in the books they read. To celebrate Oakland’s diversity through literature, the Ed Fund hosts three volunteer Read-Ins a year. Save the date for our upcoming Read-Ins:

African American Literature Read-In Week, February 5-9, 2018
Asian Pacific American Literature Read-In Week, May 7-11, 2018
 Latinx Literature Read-In, October 2018

We can help you host special guest readers from the community or send staff to document other celebrations you might choose to host (examples: assemblies, family engagement event, cross-grade buddy reading, after-school special activity).

If you’d like some pointers, try our tips on hosting Read-In volunteers at your school.

Schools and volunteers, we hope you’ll share your Read-In photos and stories on social media using #OaklandReads and #ReadingIsPower!
