MAKING THE CONNECTIONS
The Ed Fund builds partnerships that make our schools stronger. Whether it’s finding a funder for a big District project or a bringing a group of volunteers to a school to read with kids, we are committed to connecting the wider community to our public schools. A couple examples:
Reading All Across Oakland
The Ed Fund’s African-American, Latino, and Asian Pacific Islander Literature Read-Ins bring hundreds of community members into schools to read aloud to kids. Many of those come as groups from local businesses (such as Pandora), creating new partnerships with us and the schools they visit.
We Got Your Back(pack)
Partnering with Family Giving Tree, in August we distributed 4,200 supply-filled backpacks to kids who needed them, so they could start the new school year strong. Check out our Exposure photo narrative recapping the 2014 Backpack Drive.
Running for Kids
We love finding likeminded nonprofits and organizations to partner with on big events. For the 2016 Oakland Running Festival, we struck up a partnership with Running for a Better Oakland (RBO), leading us to bring upwards of 100 student runners to the Festival.
