Jonathan is passionate about working to advance educational equity in Oakland, and has been involved in public education for nearly 20 years.
Prior to joining the Ed Fund, Jonathan led the San Francisco Teacher Residency’s work to recruit, train, and support a network of teachers serving high-needs San Francisco Unified schools. In that role he raised millions of dollars, established innovative public-private partnerships, and led the program to double in size.
Jonathan is a former school leader, and was a co-principal and assistant principal in both Oakland and Alameda Unified School Districts. Before that he coached new teachers in Los Angeles, and taught math and community organizing at a small public school in Brooklyn, NY. He remains active in teacher education as an instructor in the CalTeach program at UC Berkeley.
Additionally, Jonathan is involved in a variety of parent groups in Oakland that seek to advance educational equity and racial justice through parent education, organizing, and advocacy. He is the parent of two daughters who attend Peralta Elementary School in OUSD.
Jonathan earned a Masters in Educational Leadership through the Principal Leadership Institute at UC Berkeley, and a B.S. at Wesleyan University. He grew up attending public schools in Cambridge, MA.
