Born in Hong Kong and raised in Oakland, Hong Thach graduated from Cal State East Bay with a BS in Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism.
Hong joined the Oakland Public Education Fund as an Oakland School Volunteers program coordinator October 2016. Previously, he was the program manager for Playworks Northern California, a nonprofit committed to improving kids’ health and well-being by expanding opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play.
Hong is proud to have come up through Oakland public schools, going to Franklin Elementary, Westlake Middle School and Edna Brewer, and graduating from Oakland High. Working for the Ed Fund is his chance to realize his dream of tying career to roots, of giving back to the community where he grew up riding the BART from west to deep east and attending the very schools he is working to support today.
When not at work, he loves spending time with his wife and two daughters, traveling, and eating out or cheering on his favorite sports team the Golden State Warriors.
