CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FROM A TO Z
The A to Z Fund does two big things for all Oakland public schools: gives our teachers extra training to become even better, and distributes money to school leaders to use for camping trips, music sports, and other underfunded opportunities from A to Z.
A TO Z FUND MINI-GRANTS
Thanks to every person who made a gift to this fund, we granted over $100,000 for 76 amazing projects in the 2017-18 school year. In Fall 2018, we were able to award 25% more than last fall! See what schools will be doing with Fall 2018 A to Z Fund grants.
The need for equity is clear. Fourteen schools, concentrated in Oakland’s wealthiest neighborhoods, raised more than $4 million in one school year. Meanwhile, 75 percent of Oakland students attended a school that raised less than $10,000 that same year.
We believe kids who come to school with less need more. While every Oakland public school will benefit from the A to Z Fund, we will distribute more money to schools with the most students who are low-income, English language learners, or in foster care.
