Rafael Rangell

Rafael is a California native who has now lived in the East Bay for 16 years. He is passionate about community development on a human scale and is a dedicated nonprofit professional who has spent the last 12+ years working in East Bay communities. Rafael previously worked for the YMCA of the East Bay, where he held the position of Membership Director. He is an advocate for promoting leadership opportunities and equitable outcomes within all community programming. His work has allowed him to work with local communities on topics such as public transportation, parks, public space, youth programming, and volunteerism. He earned a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in public affairs also from UC Berkeley. Outside of work, Rafael has interests that include bicycles, gardening, baseball, playing the violin, and exploring cities.
